Following an extensive search, exploring in depth four systems over the past five years, NextStep has determined that Criterion HCM offers the best combination of functionality, flexibility, usability and value in the SMB (Small-to-Midsize Business) market.
Our standard due-diligence process includes getting trained on each system that we evaluate, then implementing it in-house (as our live system), so we can experience as many aspects as possible of the software and its publisher before we determine whether to recommend it to our clients.
Criterion is designed to be much more configurable than any other system we’ve reviewed, which provides tremendous granularity and flexibility. Most calculations and business rules are controlled by codes and formulas that authorized end-users can define and change as needed. This allows for tailoring the system to handle diverse requirements/scenarios without resorting to software customization.
The Core and HR modules include benefit management, on-boarding, open enrollment, ACA reporting, org charts, position management and control, learning management and Workers Compensation activity tracking.
The Payroll module maintains all tax tables (Federal, state/provincial and local) for the USA and Canada. You can perform all your payroll-related tasks within Criterion or outsource selected functions (such as tax filing and W-2 printing) through Criterion.
With the Recruiting module you can post jobs to your Careers web page, internally and to job boards and social media; Manage job applications, interviews and job offers; Use the seamlessly integrated background screening service and keep up with EEO and other reporting needs.
Use Performance Management to review employee performance; Set goals, rate competencies and perform probationary reviews, annual reviews, exit interviews and quarterly check-ins, all of which you can easily design and modify as needed.
